That is the beauty of a Los Angeles winter. During cooler months, you should be ok to hike wherever, whenever. If you can, try to avoid hiking after 10am and before 5pm during summer months, or you may be miserable in the heat. Make sure to pack extra water you will need more than you think. The summer months (some spring and fall months too) can be very hot in Los Angeles, especially in the hills and on trails that don’t have much shade. From the grass area, you can enjoy views of Griffith Observatory (obviously), the Hollywood Sign, the hills, AND views of all of Los Angeles. You may want to pack some snacks or a bottle of water to enjoy at the peak of your hike. Once you make it to Griffith Observatory, there is a large grass area where many people picnic or just relax and enjoy the sun.
